Industrial/nu-metal act finds interesting way to molest fans with overpriced comic book, even if this wasn’t put out ten years ago, $5.99 is pretty steep (it can be argued that it includes a music disc… the argument being that it should have lowered the price of the book). It should be noted that this is a much better way to molest their fans than actually molesting their fans… much like the 40 year old guitarist in the John Galt shirt did to a 14 year old. I sadly have many many ROM issues I could easily take a picture of, it was hard to pick one. The long and the short of how this comic came to be is Parker Brothers picked up the rights to some toy that failed in the U.S. and had licensed the character to Marvel, where, for some reason, it was more successful than the toy.. lasting a full 75 issues. I have no idea why I haven’t thrown these away (must be I’m a sucker for Bill Sienkiewicz covers).

This comic confuses me. At first I thought it was possible this “Obnoxio” was actually more popular than X-Men, and they were riding his coattails to popularity rather than what would obviously be the other way around. Then I read this quote from Alan Kupperberg and get even more confused by this whole one shot

CBA: Did you have a varied career after Atlas? What were the high points?

Alan: Oh, the high points? Well, there’s the wonderful Obnoxio the Clown Meets the X-Men number one. I don’t know if that’s a high point. Script, pencils, inks, lettering and color. Or to quote Peter David, “Untouched by human hands.” Peter, take a long look in a mirror and consider the possible power of words to hurt. All the work I did for Marvel was a great deal of fun. The more control I had over it, the more fun I had.

Oh god, I have issues. After seeing this and picking it up, I must have had such a weird evil smile going on. The Ferret had made a cameo in a Street Fighter book before, you would think this is enough to ensure you will live in comic book history, but no, that is not enough, die cut cover shit going on here. I now have to start specifically looking for the rest of his comics and see if he has been involved in any other great gimmicks. He has to have some kind of hologram/foil issue.
